Oscillating between ambient and drone, the brooding compositions on Seven Dances to Embrace the Hollow, the debut album of Sopraterra (aka Zurich-based artists Magda Drozd and Nicola Genovese), bring primal connections to a universally shared past to the surface. In its multi-directional positioning, the album that references post-rock, shoegaze, psychedelic, as well as late medieval Ars Nova or Baroque chamber music makes the case for embracing the confusion of warped time and paying attention to all that’s rather felt than seen.
A co-release by La Becque Editions and Präsens Editionen, the album is available as a limited edition color vinyl, digital album, and for streaming.

The press about Seven Dances to Embrace the Hollow
‘Long, winding pieces built mostly from saxophone, recorder, violin, vocals and electronics. The duo look to warp time by rehearsing Baroque and Renaissance scales and changes through contemporary electroacoustics – even hearing them on saxophone, a 19th century invention, has a certain incongruity. Their debut album Seven Dances To Embrace The Hollow also subtly combines two horror score gene pools – the hey-nonny of British folk gothic and the pulp drama of giallo.’ The Wire
‘Artists Magda Drozd and Nicola Genovese roam the catacombs, the psychogeography, the halls and lands of a reimagined Europe and beyond to conceptualise a dream realism of mystery, invocation and intelligent aural archaeology. They uncover and then transform their curiosities and inquiry into something both hermetic and disturbing; old ghosts retrieved from across time, going back as far as the primal, through to ancient Rome, the Renaissance and Baroque époques…the recognisable made anew and slightly estranged. An electroacoustic sonic archaeological dig into the phantom layers of the conceptual, intuitive and imaginative.’ Monolith Cocktail
